சென்னையில் நேற்று மரணமடைந்த நடிகரும், தயாரிப்பாளருமான கே.பாலாஜியின் உடல் இன்று தகனம் செய்யப்பட்டது.

பிரபல நடிகரும், பட அதிபருமான கே.பாலாஜி சென்னையில் நேற்றுமரணம் அடைந்தார். அவருக்கு வயது 74.

'படித்தால் மட்டும் போதுமா', 'விடிவெள்ளி', `பலே பாண்டியா' உள்பட ஏராளமான படங்களில் நடித்தவர்.

'ராஜா',`எங்கிருந்தோ வந்தாள்', 'நீதி', 'பில்லா', 'தீ', 'சட்டம்' சமீபத்தில் வெளியான 'கிரீடம்' உள்பட 50க்கும் மேற்பட்ட படங்களை சொந்தமாக தயாரித்துள்ளார். 

கே.பாலாஜிக்கு 10 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு சிறுநீரக கோளாறு ஏற்பட்டது. அவருக்கு, 'ஆபரேஷன்' மூலம் மாற்று சிறுநீரகம் பொருத்தப்பட்டது. கடந்த 10 வருடங்களாக 'டயாலிசிஸ்' சிகிச்சைப் பெற்று வந்தார்.

கடந்த ஒரு வாரத்துக்கு முன்பு கே.பாலாஜியின் உடல்நிலை மோசமானது. சென்னை அப்பல்லோ மருத்துவமனையில் அவருக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது.

இந்நிலையில் நேற்று மாலை 5 மணிக்கு, கே.பாலாஜி மரணம்அடைந்தார். அவருடைய உடல், சென்னை எழும்பூரில் உள்ள அவரது வீட்டுக்கு கொண்டு வரப்பட்டு பொதுமக்கள் அஞ்சலிக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டது.

ஏராளமான நடிகர்-நடிகைகளும், திரையுலக பிரமுகர்களும் கே.பாலாஜியின் உடலுக்கு இறுதி மரியாதை செலுத்தினார்கள்.

தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்தை முடித்துக்கொண்டு கோவையில் இருந்து சென்னை திரும்பிய அ.தி.மு.க. பொதுச்செயலாளர் ஜெயலலிதா, கே.பாலாஜியின் வீட்டுக்கு சென்று அவரது உடலுக்கு மலர் வளையம் வைத்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்தியதோடு அவரது குடும்பத்தினருக்கு ஆறுதல் கூறினார்.

நடிகர்கள் சத்யராஜ், அஜீத்-ஷாலினி மற்றும் திரளான திரைப் பிரபலங்கள் திரண்டு வந்திருந்து மரியாதை செலுத்தினர். 

நடிகர் ரஜினிகாந்த் இன்று காலை பாலாஜியின் உடலுக்கு மாலை வைத்து இறுதி மரியாதை செலுத்தினார்.

சிவாஜி கணேசனின் புதல்வர்களான ராம்குமார், நடிகர் பிரபு ஆகிய இருவரும் குடும்பத்துடன் வந்து கே.பாலாஜியின் உடலுக்கு மரியாதை செலுத்தினார்கள். பாலாஜியின் மகன் சுரேஷ் பாலாஜிக்கு ஆறுதல் கூறினார்கள்.

இறுதி சடங்குகளுக்குப் பின், இன்று (ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை) பிற்பகல் 2 மணிக்கு கே.பாலாஜியின் உடல் அவரது வீட்டில் இருந்து ஊர்வலமாக பெசன்ட்நகர் மின்சார மயானத்துக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டது. அங்கு மாலை 3 மணியளவில் உடல் தகனம் செய்யப்பட்டது.

கே.பாலாஜியின் மனைவி பெயர் ஆனந்தவல்லி. இவர்களுக்கு சுரேஷ் பாலாஜி என்ற மகனும், சுஜாதா, சுசித்ரா என்ற 2 மகள்களும் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

சுசித்ராவின் கணவர் பிரபல மலையாள நடிகர் மோகன்லால் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

சிவாஜியின் நண்பர்...

கேரளாவைப் பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும், இளம் வயதிலேயே சென்னையில் செட்டிலாகிவிட்டார் பாலாஜி. ஆரம்ப காலத்தில் அவர் சென்னை கிண்டியில் இருந்த நரசுஸ் ஸ்டூடியோவில், தயாரிப்பு நிர்வாகியாகப் பணியாற்றினார்.

'அவ்வையார்' என்ற படத்தில் முதன் முதலாக நடித்தார். அதைத்தொடர்ந்து, 'சகோதரி,' 'பலே பாண்டியா,' 'படித்தால் மட்டும் போதுமா' ஆகிய படங்களில் நடித்து பிரபலமானார்.

'அண்ணாவின் ஆசை' என்ற படம்தான் அவர் தயாரித்த முதல் திரைப்படம். 

நடிகர் திலகம் சிவாஜியின் நெருங்கிய நண்பராகத் திகழ்ந்தார். அதன்பிறகு சிவாஜிகணேசனை வைத்து, ராஜா, நீதி உள்பட 17 படங்களைத் தயாரித்தார். சிவாஜியை வைத்து தொடர்ந்து அதிக படங்கள் தயாரித்த பட அதிபர் இவர்தான்.

Unnai pol Oruvan’s new star additions

In less than a few months of its official announcement, the Kamal starrer, remake of the Hindi movie A Wednesday, Unnaipol Oruvan, has wrapped up its first schedule. The movie that revolves around the main characters played by Kamal and Mohanlal also has supporting roles that fuel the pace of it.

Looks like for the two vital roles, model Ganesh Venkatraman, who made his acting debut with the Trisha starrer Abhiyum Naanum and Anuja Aiyer of M3V are added up to the casting list. With that the second phase of shooting is expected to kick start soon.

How Much for That "Slumdog" Kid in the Window?

Being part of an Oscar winning movie can up your asking price in Hollywood. Apparently it can also up your asking price should your father decide to try and sell you.

Rubina Ali, the nine-year-old girl who was featured prominently in the Oscar winning "Slumdog Millionaire," was offered up for sale by her father to undercover reporters working for News of the World, the paper is reporting.

The young child star's asking price was roughly $295,000. According to the paper, the price started off much lower when he first began negotiating the deal. Maybe the father forgot to take DVD sales into account.

Cheran promises a treasure: Pokkisham

The audio release of Cheran’s Pokkisham was held on Sunday, the 19th April at the Four Frames Theater in Chennai. The event was telecast live on TV and was attended by many of the industry’s top directors who expressed their faith in Cheran’s ability to mesmerize the audience with his creations. The CD of Pokkisham was formally released and two songs were screened for those present.

It would be an understatement to say that what was shown on screen was a revelation. We know Cheran as a master craftsman who has touched the chords of our hearts with sheer poignancy of his creations. The emotions evoked by Thavamaai Thavamirindu still linger. Knowing all that and expecting nothing short of high standards from Cheran, one still felt that what was being shown now was something of an elevated standard. Cheran spoke and said that the film is all about love. The story is set in the 70s and the love will have all the charm of that era; when love happened slowly but steadily where a strong emotional chord was formed between the two lovers even before they confessed their love to each other. The film will take us through the myriad emotions that two such lovers go through. Cheran plays the role of a marine engineer (Lenin) based in Calcutta and Padmapriya plays a Tamil literature student (Nithira) from Tamil Nadu. Their love takes form even as they are separated by distances and that is said to be the beauty of the movie. “Everything that is said and done in the movie will leave an impression in the heart of anyone who has ever fallen in love” said Cheran and we believe him.

As said above, the movie is set in the 1970s and that in itself necessitates elaborate sets to replicate the era. However, the budget did not allow for such liberties and Cheran had to scout many places before deciding upon a small area in Calcutta where the architecture was a throwback to the past. Small modifications to the hoarding and advertisements and the paints on buildings recreated the 1970s and brought it alive, as was seen in the songs screened. Cameraman Rajesh Yadav and art director Vairabalan should be lauded for their role in realizing Cheran’s vision. One thing that really surprised is Padmapriya’s role as a Muslim girl; she seems to have lived the character. She said at the function that this was one of the most challenging roles in her career. She has done a marvelous job. Perhaps, her previous experience of playing a Muslim character (in the Malayalam film Amritham) helped her a bit.

The two songs that were screened ‘Nila Nee Vanam’ sung by Vijay Yesudas and Chinmayee and ‘Varum Vazhi Engume’ by Renjini, were soulful and lovable compositions. The picturization too is brilliant, not the regular song and dance type, but one where the characters embed themselves in our minds. The songs appear to be written and composed strictly with the script in mind and Sabesh-Murali have done a great job of meeting the requirements. This is the composer duo’s 25th film. Their score is soothing, melodic and all those good things that are so rare in our lives.

The first impression given by the audio launch is that Pokkisham will be a film that will stand true to its title and be treasured by Tamil cinema lovers.

Graham still not leaving Prasanth

Graham lodged a police complaint saying, Prasanth along with his father are demanding more dowry and torturing her.

While Graham, by all legal means tortured Prasanth, Prasanth managed to learn that he is actually second husband for Graham and this made the legal proceeding to twist against Graham.

Mani suffers heart attack

Director Mani Ratnam, who is busy directing his upcoming flick Raavan in the city, suffered a heart attack today. Mani’s heart stroke is said to be his second and he is admitted in the Apollo Hospitals after first aid and medical supervision. Following his sudden ailment, the filming of his magnum opus Raavan is stalled until further notice, says sources close to the director.

Strenuous shoots and stress in work are the most

likely reasons for Mani’s attack. It is worth mentioning here that the director had been busy lately with the backbreaking schedules of his bilingual Raavan.

The Malabar lass has divulged the philanthropist and humane side of her in two unrelated incidents. In another incident, production manager Kamalakannan who worked for Chandramukhi and Billa had a major accident and Nayan donated 2 Lakhs for their treatment. Simbu in a different beat!

After having redefined the comedy genre with his highly acclaimed Imsai Arasan and the moderately successful Arai En, Simbudevan is back with what is rumored to be the cowboy movie of Tamil cinema. Titled Irumbukottai Murattu Singam (IMS), the movie has a colorful bunch of artistes ranging from the latest babe of Tamil cinema Lakshmi Rai to the yesteryear veteran Manorama. IMS is scored by G V Prakashkumar and produced by AGS Entertainment, Kalpathi Agoram.


A cowboy themed movie in Tamil cinema is a novel concept and the press releases announcing the movie’s shoot commencement have already sparked curiosity. Dressed in Cowboy hat; a hat with a wide brim to protect from sun, overhanging brush, and other inevitable cowboyish elements, the actors are photographed in a different light altogether from the usual movie stills. IMS has Lawrence in the lead with Padmapriya, Lakshmi Rai and Sandhya as the lead ladies. The other actors include Nasser, Manorama, Vaiyapuri, Ramesh Kanna, Mouli and Delhi Ganesh.

'Rahman and Motorola, what rubbish!'

We're not being boorish in abusing people who've spread this story. Officials from Rahman's office themselves are poking fun at the media which has been floating highly unbelievable stories like Rahman endorsing Motorola.

Agreed, brand AR Rahman sells. More today than ever before. And a few media houses and online websites have been using it to their advantage with stories like these. But such fakes are being rubbished by people close to the maestro himself, who IndiaGlitz spoke to.

The latest in the beeline of rumours about Rahman was about him endorsing Motorola for a record price. 'Then what about his dealings with Nokia already?' his officals ask in jest. That a person cannot endorse two brand of the same field is common sense, they think. And it was less than a few months ago that Rahman, in collaboration with Nokia, brought out his mobile album, Connections, as part of his deal with them. Rahman and Nokia have earlier collaborated for his album, Pray For Me Brother. Officials in Rahman's studio say there were not even talks about an agreement with Motorola and this was a complete baseless rumour.

Now, reports in various spurious sections of the media have announced that Rahman has inked a deal with Motorola for a record Rs 28 crore to take over as its youth icon and brand ambassador, instead of David Beckam. Websites and online sources mind find it interesting to publish such stories, but those who know the truth only call them 'imaginative'.

Kamal’s invitation to Amitabh

Although Dasavatharam, released last year, reaped enviable commercial success down South, the Hindi dubbed version is ready to hit the screens in Bollywood only now. On this occasion, Kamal spoke briefly to a private television channel revealing that he has invited the Big B for premiere of Dasavatharam.

He was non-committal when questioned about the delay in releasing Dasavatharam in Hindi saying that the producer has to be asked the question. ‘I want


everyone to see this movie,’ he added. When asked whether Shruti receives his fatherly advises, Kamal stated that the only advice she got was in zoo or Disneyland and added that she would do well.

Kanthaswamy – Vikram’s disbelief!

As a preamble to the ensuing grand audio release, producers of Kanthaswamy convened a press brief at Sri Annai Abirami Theatre tonight at 8.00. The event witnessed attendance from Vikram, Shriya, Devi Sri Prasad, Susi Ganesan, lyricist Viveka, Sony BMG official Nandini and producer Kalaipuli Thanu.

Thanu, in his welcome speech, launched Kanthaswamy’s trailers. As a novel attempt and to pronounce the grandeur associated with the movie’s


production, five different trailers were screened. Each one, shot in super stylish angles with perfect finishing, is meant to tantalize the viewers and give them a sneak peek on what is in the anvil.

It was also made known that the audio will be released on April 15, 2009 for which a big scale event is planned. Dancers from Italy were invited to be part of the event who are already rehearsing for the same, it was revealed. The audio release will be telecast on Sun TV. Thanu mentioned that this audio release event will be a tribute to the film’s lead Vikram who has sung almost all the songs in the album like good old days when heroes also took the role of singers.

Kanthaswamy will also adopt around 30 villages in Tamil Nadu, as opposed to the earlier plan of 3. Many welfare schemes will be implemented in the villages and eligibility to become a part of this adoption scheme will be announced very soon, Thanu and director Susi Ganesan announced. Susi also showered admiration on Thanu mentioning that he was provided complete freedom during the movie’s production.

It is worth mentioning that Thanu completes his 25 years in cinema this 2009.

Vikram was all praises for Susi Ganesan and stated that he never imagined such a grand scale filming of Kanthaswamy. “When the script was narrated to me, I did not think Kanthaswamy would be such a mammoth project. But Susi has made the project truly humongous,” he said.

In her brief speech, Shriya attributed her beautiful looks in the movie to director Susi. “If I look any better in this movie than my other ones, the sole credit of it goes to the director,” she asserted.

Meera Jasmine questions Vikraman

If Meera Jasmine has confessed to having a good opinion about a director openly, it has got to be about Vikraman, with whom she has worked for ‘Mariyadhai’.

“I was surprised when he said he wanted to do a remix of an MGR film in ‘Mariyadhai’. I immediately asked him, ‘Sir, are you the kind of a director to do a remix? Later did I then realize that both he and Vijayakanth are diehard fans of MGR. In fact, Vikraman had done one of the earliest remixes in Tamil, “Aadaludan Padalai Kettu” in his film, ‘Pudhu Vasantham’,” says the actress.

The troublesome times that Meera gave her directors seem to be a thing of the past. She is also working on director Thyagarajan’s ‘Malayoor Mambattiyaan’ and the director has only sweet things to say about Meera. “She never asked for a caravan, never minded the rains, never delayed our shooting and never threw any tantrums,” says Thyagarajan.

Prashanth and Meera Jasmine play the roles immortalized by Thyagarajan and Saritha in the yesteryear blockbuster ‘Malayoor Mambattiyaan’.

Trisha gets the Best Actress Award

Andhra based Telugu Channel Maa TV awarded actress Trisha as the Best Heroine for the film Aadavari Maattalekhu Arthale Verule. The channel has awarded Junior NTR as Best Actor and Happy Days as Best Feature Film in Telugu.
Actress Trisha was present on the occasion to receice the prestigious award. Speaking on the occasion, Trisha thanked the channel administration as well her Director Selvaragavan for featuring her on the role. She plays as an IT executive cum lover of Venkatesh and this is the same role that Nayantara is playing in the remake, Yaaradi Nee Mohini.
At present, Trisha is playing in 4 movies in Telugu including Mahesh Babu’s and Junior NTR’s forthcoming flicks. Abhiyum Naanum, Kuruvi are her forthcoming big releases for this summer and she will sign two more new flicks soon after completing her Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkaalam.

Seeman to dub for 'Mayandi Kudumbathar'

Director Rasu Madhuravan is currently directing 'Mayandi Kudumbathar'. The film features 10 directors, including Manivannan, Seeman, Nanda Periyasamy, Ravi Maria and Jegannath.

Shooting for this film, which begun later last year, is almost complete and the crew is planning on a may release. But the film, which also features Seeman in an important role, has been waiting for the director who is in prison to dub for it.

Permission has now been obtained to let the director out on parole to dub for the film. Permission has been sought as the film is pending for release largely owing to his role not being dubbed for.

A mix of humor, sentiment and action, ‘Mayandi Kudumbathar’ features Tharun Gopi in the lead, Thamizharasi and Poongodi, play the heroines.

Sandhya is the new Chandramukhi

It is known that director P. Vasu is working on a sequel to Aptha Mitra, which was remade as Chandramukhi in Tamil. The Tamil version, which had Rajinikanth, Jyothika and Nayanthara, went on to become a smash hit. The director has commenced work on its sequel in Kannada and has named it Aptha Ratchaga. Earlier P. Vasu had planned to sign up Sneha for the leading role but due to call sheet issues she could not make it. It now appears that Sandhya has been signed for the project and the shooting is currently on in Pazhani.



Director P. Vasu says that he has not yet decided on remaking Aptha Ratchaga in Tamil.

Vairamuthu gets the Sadhana Samaan



Here’s another institution and another state to appreciate poet Vairamuthu’s world of words. The Sadhana Samaan, which is a literary honour given by the Bharathiya Baasha Parishad, will be given to the poet on April 18.

One of the most revered poet of our times, Kavipperarasu Vairamuthu has been in the writing field for over three decades and has written over 5,800 songs for films. Besides these, he is also widely acclaimed for his literary genius and has published several novels, short stories and poems. A recipient of the National Award five times, he is also popular for having worked with several musical greats, like Illayaraja and AR Rahman.

The Sadhana Samaan will be yet another jewel in the crown of this celebrated poet and lyricist. He will also deliver a speech on Literature: the past, present and the future at the awards ceremony.

The Sadhana Samaan has earlier been won by Tamil writers like Jayakanthan, Indra Parthasarathy and Sivasankari.

Omakuchi Narasimhan passed away

Omakuchi Narasimhan, the famous comedy artist of myriad flicks has passed away today at his residence in Triplicane, Chennai.

He has portrayed some of the best comical sequences sharing screen space with Koundamani, Senthil, Vivek and Vadivelu. His role of a witty contender to Goundamani in Sarath Kumar’s ‘Suriyan’ is still remembered by one and all. In ‘Mudhalvan’, Omakuchi Narasimhan played the role of father-in-law to Vadivelu and he has also enacted beside Vivek in number of comedy tracks.

Omakuchi Narasimhan has worked in different languages including Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Marati. He has also acted in some English films.

He has a long history in cinema with several versatile roles and guest appearances to his credit. Even though he’s no more, the uproarious scenes done by him will entertain us for the time to come and make us recall him.

The actor aged 71 is survived by his wife Saraswathi, daughters Vijayalakshmi, Nirmala, Sangeetha and son Kameshwaran. The last ritual rites will be held on Saturday with people from filmdom paying their homage to the demised artist.

We express our deepest condolence for his family members and wish his soul to rest in peace.

Filmfare Awards
The Filmfare Awards for playback singing first started in the year 1958. In 1956, 'Rasik Balma'[CHORI-CHORI] won the Best Song Filmfare Award, Lata refused to sing it live in protest of no Playback Singer category, which paved way in 1958 of this new category ( though Male & Female Awards where started later on).
From the year 1958 to 1966 no other female singer was able to get the filmfare award. Since she had won the popular Filmfare awards so many times & had always been accussed of monopolising the industry (along with sister Asha), after 1969, she made the unusual gesture of giving up FILMFARE awards in favour of fresh talent.

Lata Mangeshkar Award



The Government of Madya Pradesh instituted a national level music award, in 1984, in recognition of Lata's extraordinary talent and her services to the field of music. The award, Lata Mangeshkar Award, consists of a certificate of merit and a cash award of Rs. One Lac. Till date this award has been conferred on such giants of music field like Naushad [1984], Kishore Kumar [1985], Jaidev [1986], Manna Dey [1987], Khayyam [1988], Asha Bhosle [1989], Bhupen Hazarika [2000], Mahendra Kapoor[2002] & Sandhya Mukherjee. Music director O. P. Nayyar was also selected to be the recipient of the Award. He, however, declined to accept it on the ground that he would have preferred to accept an award named after a music director for a music director teaches a singer the nuances of music, not the vice versa.
Lata Mangeshkar Award was also instituted by Maharashtra Government in 1992, first recipient of this award was Manik Verma for her outstanding contribution in singing.
